NGĀPUHI TAKIWĀ

NGĀPUHI TAKIWĀ

About Takiwā

Takiwā and their boundaries were established as part of the Rūnanga’s role and responsibility to manage assets and quota under the Māori Fisheries Act 2004, on behalf of all Ngāpuhi.

Our Trust Deed defines the purpose of Takiwā, which is to provide an opportunity for any person of Ngāpuhi descent to participate and provide input into the interests of all Ngāpuhi.

There are currently 10 Takiwā in Ngāpuhi.

Every three years, Takiwā nominate and elect a Trustee to represent them (and broader Ngāpuhi interests) on the Board of Trustees.  Trustees are elected for a term of three years.

Takiwā have an Executive Committee that includes a minimum of a Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer.  Some Takiwā also have Proxy Trustees.

Takiwā meet regularly and we encourage all Ngāpuhi to attend and participate in the various important kaupapa that are discussed.  And it’s a great opportunity to meet other Ngāpuhi whānau.
