The Christchurch Men’s’ team travelled to Invercargill for the annual New Zealand Men’s Netball Nationals in September 2017. The team had previously won 18 consecutive ‘A’ grade titles in the last 20 years and had hopes of regaining the honour in 2017. This year marked the 32nd anniversary of the Men’s National Championships, a code which continues to develop a strong presence in New Zealand.
Although Christchurch had very convincing wins through the round robin stages in the lead up to the grand final, they lost the final to North Harbour who have now won the title for the last four consecutive years.
Dallas Harema was an integral member of the team and as a senior player brought a lot of much needed experience. He hopes to return in 2018 and has also been selected to trial for the New Zealand Men’s Team who will compete in the Trans-Tasman tournament against Australia next year.
Dallas is very thankful to Te Rūnanga-Ā-Iwi O Ngāpuhi for the support he received in order to play this sport at a level he exceeds in, knowing he also represents his whanau and community.
